Hooked on Puzzle Pirates

When Eric told me about this game a while back I didn’t really give it much thought, despite his very detailed explanation.  It was strictly pay-to-play and didn’t appear to offer what I normally like in a game.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Puzzle Pirates is an MMO that takes a unique twist to gameplay.  What sets this game apart from other pirate adventure games like Voyage Century Online is the use of different types of puzzles.  Players, depending on their roles aboard a ship, will have to complete puzzles as quickly as possible.  The crew that has the better ability to complete their puzzles quickly and efficiently will  be victorious.

Well, Puzzle Pirates now offers servers for non-subscribers, allowing gamers to see what all the fuss is about without paying a monthly fee.  So far, I’m impressed by its simplicity of design and gameplay.  Of course, a lot of my current love for this game is due to my lack of high-speed internet access.  Then again, based on what I’ve played thus far, I have a feeling that Puzzle Pirates may find a permanent home on my PC’s hard drive.  If you’ve been hesitant in the past to try this game out because of its monthly price tag, now is a great time to give it a test drive.

Most of the puzzles remind me of the ones my mom plays on one of those little websites.  Perhaps this would be something she would actually like better?  The game lets you select a female pirate as your avatar, so there really isn’t anything stopping her except that she uses a Mac.

Oh yeah, one more thing, if you want to give it a try, register by click on the banner below.  It gives me some extra “pieces o’ eight” that I need to make my shanty a littl’ more yaaar!

  1. Yeah, this post might be a month old, but I wanted to comment that puzzle pirates is run off of JAVA. This means that as long as you have JAVA on your computer and an internet connection, you will be able to play it.
