Some time ago, I made a post about a third-party modification called Beyond the Red Line. The mod team behind the project released the above YouTube video in mid August of this year, and from what I can tell, it’s coming along quite nicely.
I downloaded an early version of the demo last year and was very impressed. At the time, there wasn’t much completed. That has definitely changed, with the video proving just how busy the mod team has been.
The mod is aimed at creating a true Battlestar Galactica experience out of the Freespace 2 engine. The best part about this mod is the ability to play it without having Freespace 2. All you do is download the game files and go. Right now, they have the latest version of the playable demo on their website.
There really aren’t any huge announcements about Beyond the Red Line, but I like to keep tabs on exciting projects that are generally under the radar. In my opinion, this mod and, more importantly, mod team deserve a lot of attention and credit. The quality of work being done here is amazing considering they don’t have the financial backing of a big developer or publisher.
In other news, I’m currently playing Fallout 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Far Cry 2, and Left 4 Dead. Fallout 3 is growing on me, as I figured it would. I’m getting over the whole, “I wish it was a shooter thing.”

Just as a quick comment. The video won’t load because it is “private”.
